League of Women Voters hosts Lunch and Learn

The League of Women Voters of the Arlington Heights-Mount Prospect-Buffalo Grove areas, including Wheeling-Prospect Heights-Elk Grove Village, will host a Lunch and Learn from noon-1:45 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Outback Steakhouse, 909 N. Elmhurst Road, Mount Prospect. Speakers will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Hilary Denk, co-chairwoman of the League of Women Voters of Illinois Issues and Advocacy committee, said, "Important funding referendums and advisory questions … appear on the primary ballot. Get informed and vote. It's our duty and our privilege as Americans."

The League strives to help voters stay informed and engaged and will highlight three of the referendums on the March 20 ballot.

The first speaker scheduled for 12:30 p.m. is Fire Chief Drew Smith, who will address the Prospect Heights Fire District Referendum. Immediately following, Sann Knipple will address the ballot referendum for Mount Prospect School District 57, and finally, at 1 p.m., Cook County Commissioner Timothy O. Schneider, the keynote speaker, will address a commissioner's responsibility and answer questions about the nonbinding referendum to legalize marijuana in Cook County.

The Lunch and Learn series is free to the public and no ticket is necessary to attend. For information, voter registration and polling information, go to www.lwvah.org.
