Women's Club of Inverness Supports Local PADS

For many years, Women's Club of Inverness (WCI) has awarded a grant to support Journeys | The Road Home, a not-for-profit agency that assists people who are homeless and at-risk of becoming homeless in the Northwest suburbs. The PADS shelter at All Saints Lutheran Church in Palatine is one of 18 faith-based emergency shelters that support the Journeys | The Road Home program. Every Saturday night from October through April, All Saints offers the men and women who comes to its door, including children occasionally, warm, dry, secure shelter and nutritious food.

Recently, a group of all WCI members - joined together as Muirfield Ladies of Inverness to provide the PADS dinner in January, at All Saints. The group decided to take on the entire dinner of 24 servings for that evening. Assignments were made to balance time and donation among these volunteers: Eileen Kohne, Susanne Glazbrook, Tricia Gregory, Joanne Jorgensen, Penny Orlowski, Sue Sadowski, Diane Gylling, and Trina Toms. Spouses Gordie Gregory and Michael Kohne handled the delivery of the filled car.

"Doing a service project was a perfect way to launch the 2018 New Year, and I am already working to coordinate another date in April," said WCI President Eileen Kohne. "In addition to the Saturday dinner, there is an opportunity to provide groceries for the breakfast and packed lunches, like milk, eggs, bread, which is perfect for someone wanting to get involved but not able or interested in a cooking contribution."

"We're grateful for the support of individuals and groups from the community who help us care for those in need," said Tom Germuska, one of the shelter's Co-Site Directors. "Offering our guests delicious home-cooked meals such as the Mexican fiesta prepared by the Muirfield Ladies of Inverness, is a wonderful way to say welcome to our home."
