Learn about effects of digital media on children Jan. 11

Gail Borden Public Library is offering "Screentime and Children: Success or Sabotage for Learning," a program about the effects of digital media on children's learning and development.

The program, part of the "For My Family" series, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in downtown Elgin.

Dr. Dipesh Navsaria, MPH, MSLIS, MD, an associate professor of pediatrics at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health, will highlight research on electronic screen use, including use of television, computers, and handheld devices, and give recommendations for families as they navigate this topic. Dr. Navsaria will also review marketing to children and eBook usage by children.

The program is free to the public but registration is required. Register at gailborden.info, by calling (847) 429-4597 or in person at any library branch.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, the presenter will be Hamilton Wings from 6 to 7 p.m.
