Learn about water, bike trail initiatives in the Fox Valley

The Elgin Community Network "Elgin Alive Series" continues with a program on the Fox River water and bike trail initiatives from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the Meadows Community Rooms A-B at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Learn about the Fox River Water Trail Initiative from Karen Miller, a National Water Trail Initiative Advisor to the Fox River Ecosystem Partnership. A group of stakeholders in Illinois and Wisconsin are working to establish a Fox River Water Trail stretching from the river's headwaters in Wisconsin to its confluence with the Illinois River in Ottawa, Illinois. The goal is to seek national designation through the National Water Trails System.

A similar initiative is being undertaken along the bike trail network following the Fox River corridor. Tom Armstrong will present work underway to establish a Trail Towns network along the Fox River Trail and Prairie Trail.

Both initiatives will increase environmental awareness and bring added recreation, tourism and economic benefits to the communities in the Fox River corridor.
