Women's Club of Inverness celebrates the Beauty of Grace

On Thursday, September 14, 2017, the Women's Club of Inverness (WCI) 2017-18 membership year will officially begin. President Eileen Kohne earlier announced her theme, Beauty of Grace, to the membership. Building on last year's focus on the many random acts of kindness generated by WCI members, Eileen sees all this kindness continuing, adding grace to be shared among the membership and in our communities. Last year WCI experienced a 33% increase in membership and more than a 40% jump in fundraising. These proceeds were reinvested into many Northwest suburban communities through philanthropy grants and scholarships to students who reside within School Districts #211 and #220 boundaries.

There are three inspiring speakers planned for the September meeting.

A 2016 WCI Scholarship winner, Leslie Madrid, will share her personal story and how she is fulfilling her aspiration to be a pediatric nurse by attending Harper College. We will be touched by her commitment and how the WCI award touched her.

Elizabeth Nabors, executive director for Journeys | The Road Home, will discuss how the WCI grant received last year for transportation assistance supports their program and the impact on individuals and families.

Another grant was awarded to Palatine Township Sr. Citizens Council for services to Spanish and Russian speaking adults, and Executive Director Carol Reagan will explain the difference it will make for their clients.

These speakers will unveil just a few of WCI's random acts of kindness from the 2016-17 year. In total, 32 organizations received grants, over $1,000 was donated to support Palatine Township Food Pantry and Harper College Pavers for Promise, and $23,000 in scholarship awards.

At the September meeting, plans for the coming year will be revealed, with special highlight of the Club's first fundraiser. The chair team of Sue Sadowski and Karen Kallman have crafted, Jingle & Mingle, to be held on Wednesday, November 15, 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Medinah Country Club. This Girls' Night Out is an evening of socializing, shopping, and surprises. Raffle chances for diamonds, cash, and merchant gift cards for some lucky winners. Other entertainment is planned with Chef demonstrations, make-up enhancements, and generally an evening of girlfriend good times.
