Chicago woman gets probation for 2017 Schaumburg, Des Plaines robberies

The last of three Chicago residents charged with robbing gas stations in Schaumburg and Des Plaines and a doughnut shop in Glenview pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated robbery.

Samantha Perez, 24, pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated robbery in exchange for four years' probation, with the first year on intensive probation, said Denise Loiterstein, Cook County assistant state's attorney.

Intensive probation typically requires a curfew, prohibits the use of drugs and/or alcohol, and may include community service. Perez, who received credit for 534 days in custody, was also ordered to pay $459 in fines, court records show.

Co-defendants Ahmet Fathi, 28, and Ayham Alamawi, 25, previously pleaded guilty. Fathi pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Alamawi pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to four years in prison, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.

All of the defendants' sentences were ordered to be served concurrently, court records show.

In March 2017, Fathi entered a gas station on the 2500 block of North Meacham Road in Schaumburg while Alamawi and Perez waited in a car, according to prosecutors who said Fathi threatened the clerk and took $150.

The trio is accused of robbing a Glenview doughnut shop a short time later. According to prosecutors, Fathi used a knife to open the cash register, then fled with the others. The clerk called 911 and a description of the defendants went out to other police departments, prosecutors said. Niles police stopped the defendants a short time later on a traffic violation.

Fathi, Perez and Alamawi are also charged with robbing a Des Plaines gas station the same week. Police said Fathi and Perez entered the gas station on the 1200 block of Lee Street in Des Plaines and that Fathi put a knife to the clerk's throat and took money from the register.
