Northwest suburbs hosting 9/11 ceremonies Monday

Several communities in the Northwest suburbs are hosting events Monday, Sept. 11, to remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that occurred 16 years ago. Here's information on some of the observances:

Des Plaines: The city will hold a "Patriot Day" ceremony 8 a.m. at city hall at 1420 Miner St. Speakers will include chaplain David Haley, Mayor Matt Bogusz and Police Chief Bill Kushner, with closing remarks from Fire Chief Alan Wax. The ceremony will include music, a ceremonial ringing of the bell and rifle salute.

Hanover Park: The village will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza outside village hall at 2121 Lake St. The ceremony will remember and honor the men, women, police, firefighters and other first responders who lost their lives.

Hoffman Estates: The village will continue its annual tradition of honoring the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a special Ceremony of Remembrance 5 p.m. at village hall, 1900 Hassell Road.

Palatine: The fire and police departments will hold a one-hour ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial at the corner of North Brockway and West Slades streets.

Rosemont: The Public Safety Department will host a service at 8:15 a.m. at Rosemont Fire Station 1, 5800 River Road. All are welcome. Parking is available in the northwest corner of the CTA lot across the street.
