COD, faculty reach tentative contract deal
Negotiating teams for the College of DuPage and the school's faculty association have reached a tentative contract agreement — just days before a contract imposed by COD's board of trustees was set to take effect. The deal was struck just after midnight Saturday — the result of bargaining sessions on Thursday and Friday that lasted a combined 25 hours, said Faculty Association President Glenn Hansen.

But these teenagers care about more than their resumes. They plan to make a difference. "Through my work, I want to be able to give hope to people whose quality of life has been limited by the seemingly impossible," writes Mia Frasca of Wheaton Warrenville South High School.

- Thirteen members of the Choral-Aires Chorus recently showed support for chorus members, families and friends battling breast cancer by participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Lombard. The chorus, based in Elmhurst, led all other community teams in fundraising efforts, raising more than $3,000 to fight breast cancer. Lindsey Herza

- Since 1909 when W.D. Boyce brought scouting to America, the guiding principles of the Boy Scouts of America has remained the same; preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Deicke Scout Shop, which is operated by the Boy Scouts of America Three Fires Council, supports the mission of scouting through its large inventory of uniforms, camping equipment, achievement recognitions and more. Plus, the shop serves as a resource center for information and registration of upcoming group outings and activities of the Three Fires Council. In 2010, 357 Eagle Scouts, 16,304 Cub Scouts, 6,574 Boy Scouts, 708 Venturers, and 1,547 Explorers were registered members; plus the Council is proud to serve one of the largest special needs packs in the country. - Nearly 500 residents of Lombard's International Village Apartments celebrated the grand opening of the property's newly renovated clubhouse at a June 29 event hosted by owners F&F Realty. - William White explains to Daniel Hoff, Dawn Mattson and Linda Mattson how the VetDog program has enhanced his life. William has had his Labrador Retriever VetDog, Rudy, for a few years. Rudy helps him swim and get out of the pool and with everyday activities. William lost his arm and leg while serving as a Sergeant in the Marines.
