Impacting Lives around the County - Christina LePage and People's Resource Center are Making a Difference

Sitting down with Christina LePage and chatting is like taking in a breath of fresh air. There is a genuineness and kindness about her that just emanates from the heart. As you begin to talk about the "why's" of the work she does at People's Resource Center (PRC), a picture of compassion and desire to help emerges.

Christina is the newest face at People's Resource Center. Their headquarters are in Wheaton and they have an amazing satellite facility in Westmont. Christina is the Senior Director of Programs - Basic Services. This means she oversees their food pantry, clothing closest and social services. She made it clear that PRC strives to "serve our neighbors" with the utmost respect and dignity. Grown from a grassroots organization, during its forty year history, People's Resource Center has been a beacon of light in so many ways for so many people.

If you visit the facility in Westmont, you are greeted with a warm smile. When you tour PRC, it is impressive. Their capacity to assist residents is extensive: Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, Computer Access and Training, Social Services, Art Studio, Job Search Assistance and Adult Learning and Literacy. That's quite a list and the dedication of the staff and volunteers is what makes it possible. As a matter of fact, one of the noteworthy comments Christina made was this: "I've never worked at a place that had a heartbeat. So many are a part of keeping that heartbeat strong." People's Resource Center is a living, breathing entity that breathes life into so many residents within the Township communities and DuPage County.

While speaking with her, the passion and excitement she has is palpable. "I love coming to work every day. Our staff and volunteers show so much care. Our volunteers feel so good about what they are a part of and they see an immediate impact. Even though we aren't in it for the "thank you", you can see the gratitude expressed by our clients." What a testimony to the power of compassion.

While speaking about the challenges the organization faces, she said it is primarily getting the word out about what they do. She also highlighted that building and maintaining relationships with other social service providers was important in a variety of ways: identifying needs, making sure services aren't duplicated and keeping communication lines open. All of these are helpful in maximizing resources so that more people who need a hand can receive it.
