Bruning & Associates dedicated to giving back to the community

When Kevin W. Bruning founded his law firm, Bruning & Associates, PC in 2000, his goal was - and still is - to help the community through a variety of charitable activities.

"I believe every small and mid-size business owner has an obligation to help their community," said Bruning, managing partner of the Crystal Lake firm. "Today, more than ever, we must acknowledge that the business community be focused on helping people in the community."

Bruning is a charger member of the Rotary Club of Fox Valley Sunset, a Rotarian of the year, vice president and chairman of this organization. In addition, he is a member of the Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers, a past president, vice president and past chairman.

Bruning's dedication for Rotary has been embraced by Kathy Heitkemper, a partner at the firm, who is currently president of Rotary Fox Valley Sunset.

One of Heitkemper's main activities with the Rotary Club is the food pantry and mobile food truck.

"I thought it was important for my three children, under the age of 12, to see that people in our community don't have enough food to eat," Heitkemper said. "I took them with me to one event to teach them it's important to help other people less fortunate than they are. Of course, we can't help everyone, but we help who we can."

In addition to the firm's extensive support to these two Rotary chapters, this year the firm has already donated to 12 other organizations needing money or on-site volunteers ranging from an organization for abused women and children to PAWS Chicago to Autism Speaks.

"I encourage you to help your community anyway you can," Bruning added. "Although networking is important for your business, community outreach is crucial. Select an organization that you feel passionate about and want to help. Volunteer as much as you can. Giving back makes you feel good."
