Girl Scout Project for Park District Theatre Program

Conant Girl Scout gives new look to Park District theatre program

Submitted by Shannon Elsey

The theatre department storeroom at the Elk Grove Park District's Pavilion, 1000 Wellington Ave., Elk Grove Village, received a major facelift thanks to Girl Scout and Conant High School student Anne Stanislawski.

Anne has been a participant in the Park District's Spotlight Theatre program for nine years and noticed the theatre department storeroom was a challenge to maintain due to its lack of systematic organization. Anne took on the project as an opportunity to put her organizational skills and familiarity with the program to good use.

"I want to give back to the theatre community because they've been a positive influence in my life and helped me grow as a person," says Anne of Troop 40513, who raised money to purchase supplies for the project and feed the many volunteers who helped her organize the space.

The organization of this space has already benefitted the Park District's theatre program that is currently preparing for its production of The Lion King Jr. Anne inventoried all of the program's costumes, props and supplies, allowing the space to be utilized more effectively. One of Anne's desired impacts is to "save the community money by providing information of what is inside the storeroom to avoid purchases of extra, unneeded materials."

Anne's "Kid's Storeroom for the Stage" project is for her Gold Award. She earned this award by using her leadership and organizational skills and will be formally recognized at a ceremony this May.
