Powerful storms packing hurricane-force winds and large hail moved across parts of the Midwest last night, including in Chicago, where soccer fans attending the Copa America semifinal at Soldier Field were urged to take immediate shelter. In the suburbs, the storm caused flooding in Palatine and toppled a Shell gas station canopy in Mt. Prospect. Full story.

Palatine Sikh society holds vigil for Orlando victims

The Palatine Sikh Religious Society hosted a candlelight vigil yesterday to honor the lives of the 49 people killed in Orlando on June 12. Eight speakers representing the Sikh, LGBTQ, Muslim and gun violence prevention communities addressed the standing-room-only crowd. Full story.

Dundee Township official charged with indecent exposure

Dundee Township Highway Commissioner Larry Braasch has been charged with indecent exposure after witnesses told police he inappropriately touched himself in front of children at a Myrtle Beach campground, Myrtle Beach Online reported. Full story.

Aurora man charged after east-side shooting

An Aurora man faces charges after two people were injured in a shooting on the city's east side earlier this week, police said yesterday. Aurora police say they got tons of help from neighbors who witnessed the shooting of two male victims, ages 17 and 21, bout 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on the 900 block of Fieldside Lane. Full story.

Schaumburg man pleads guilty to gun, marijuana charges

A Schaumburg man pleaded guilty to gun and marijuana charges in exchange for a three-year prison sentence and $749 in fines. Hoffman Estates police arrested Stephon Owens, 20, in February. Full story.

Cubs not panicking after being swept by Cardinals

If there was any widespread panic yesterday at Wrigley Field, it was contained to the stands and not the Cubs' clubhouse. Even though the Cubs got themselves swept by the St. Louis Cardinals, thanks to Wednesday's 7-2 loss, the mood inside seemed calm.
