Aurora man faces gun charges

An Aurora man is facing charges after two people were injured in a shooting on the city's east side earlier this week, police said Wednesday.

Aurora police say they got tons of help from neighbors who witnessed the shooting of two men, ages 17 and 21, at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on the 900 block of Fieldside Lane.

Raheim D. Davis, of the 1400 block of Andover Drive, is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police say the two victims, four other men, a woman and Davis got into a verbal altercation while traveling in three different vehicles on Fieldside. When some of the men exited their vehicles to confront Davis, he stepped out of his vehicle and began shooting, police said. He fled the area through backyards and was arrested on the 2800 block of Fox Hill. He was had weapon used in the shooting, police said.

Shortly after the fight, police stopped four men in a speeding car near Fox Hill Road and Long Grove Drive. They were released without charges.

Police do not believe the incident is gang-related. Both of the injured men continue to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information should call Aurora Police at (630) 256-5500, Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000, or submit tips through the Aurora Police Department's “My P.D.” app.

Police credited the numerous neighborhood witnesses who came forward to police to assist in the arrest of Davis.

“Their actions were instrumental in bringing charges in what is proving to be a complicated case and show that they truly care about their neighborhoods,” said Chief of Police Kristen Ziman said in a statement.
