Schaumburg man pleads guilty to gun, marijuana charges

A Schaumburg man pleaded guilty to gun and marijuana charges in exchange for a three-year prison sentence and $749 in fines.

Hoffman Estates police arrested Stephon Owens, 20, in February after executing a search warrant at his home, prosecutors said during Owens' bond hearing earlier this year. In addition to a loaded .22 caliber gun, police recovered 69 grams of marijuana, prosecutors said.

At the time of his arrest, Owens was on probation for misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon, prosecutors said.

He pleaded guilty last week, according to court records. Owens received credit for the 110 days he has spent in custody. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
