Countryside Fire Installs Smoke Alarms

Countryside Fire District has had fires related to improperly disposed smoking materials and unattended cooking. The Fire Prevention Bureau planned a proactive approach to help reduce injuries and the spread of fires by acquiring smoke alarms for the Diamond Lake Mobile Homes community of their fire district. Three fire prevention staff, two spanish speaking staff members and Chief Steingart methodically went to fifty-eight mobile homes last Saturday May 21. The crews installed smoke alarms in homes that needed them and changed batteries in homes with working smoke alarms less than ten years old. Chief Steingart said," Getting smoke alarms and the message out to this important demographic in our district and the impression we left is immeasurable!"

Tony Rodkey, Public Education Coordinator created a red t-shirt to help identify with the community that the fire district was there to serve the people living in the mobile homes. The front of the t-shirt read, "Detectores de humo salvan vidas!" while the back of the t-shirt reads,"Smoke Alarms Save Lives!" Test smoke alarms monthly and change the batteries when you change your clocks. For more information go to www.countrysidefire.com.
