Our middle class has lost its voice

We hear that Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders have given voice to you who do not have anyone speaking for you in the halls of state and national government.

You who have seen your wages stagnant and opportunities for you children fade have no influence with government leaders. The corporations have the Chamber of Commerce to speak for them. The wealthy hire lobbyists and ALEC. Gun owners have the NRA to speak for them.

Most of the middle class used to have labor unions to speak for them, but you were told that labor unions were socialistic. And socialism for the working person, you were told, was bad. So you were told to be an individual and suck it up. There would be no collective voice for you. Conservative politicians sneered at your leaders and called them bossy.

Your alternatives are now discontinuous with a presidential race every four years and not moderate. Trump may force out from the national scene those who compete with you for jobs and Sanders may drive the powerful to be more generous. But you remain without an organization which speaks for you to the leaders of government on a daily basis. Without an organization representing your interests, as the wealthy have, you have lost your voice.
