Two juveniles in custody for armed robbery near Palatine

Two juveniles face charges for robbing a gas station near Palatine one week ago, authorities said Tuesday in a news release.

Lake County sheriff's detectives were contacted by Des Plaines Police about a juvenile they had in custody for an armed robbery in that city. Based on a previous bulletin issued by Lake County authorities, Des Plaines police determined the juvenile also was wanted for questioning in a March 22 armed robbery at the Marathon gas station in the 23000 block of North Rand Road near Palatine, the release stated.

Lake County detectives interviewed the juvenile, who admitted his involvement in the robbery in unincorporated Lake County, authorities said.

The juvenile is held in a Cook County Juvenile Detention Facility, authorities said. Detectives will submit a charge of armed robbery to a judge later this week, authorities said.

A second juvenile offender was taken into custody at his residence and was transported to the Lake County Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility near Vernon Hills. An armed robbery charge has been submitted to a judge regarding the second juvenile, authorities said.

Police have not named the juveniles due to their ages and because neither is charged with a crime until a judge approves charges against them, authorities said.

Sheriff's detectives recovered a BB gun used in the armed robbery, authorities said. More than $300 was stolen from the Marathon gas station during the armed robbery.
