Elgin Woman's Club meeting to feature holiday theme

Join the Elgin Woman's Club for their holiday luncheon and meeting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Villa Olivia Country Club, Route 20 and Naperville Road, Bartlett.

Georgia Ross and Rita Corbett will provide the program featuring guest pianist Linda Scheifele, who also will accompany the singing of carols.

Cost for the luncheon is $20, payable by check or cash the day of the meeting. Members and guests are asked to make reservations by calling the hotline at (847) 622-3614.

In addition, all those attending are asked to bring a $10 wrapped grab bag gift, plus a pair of socks or mittens/gloves for children at the Community Crisis Center.

The club meets monthly from September to May for luncheon meetings and programs. Women interested in receiving more information about the Elgin Woman's Club also may call the hotline.

This year, the Elgin Woman's Club celebrated its 128th anniversary, having been founded in 1887 and one year later, opened Sherman Hospital, which they continue to support. Since the club was organized members have also supported hundreds of local projects including yearly scholarships to students from area high schools. In addition, members serve as readers in local schools, volunteers in hospitals and other agencies throughout the Elgin area and are active in recycling, conservation, women's health, international affairs and other projects.
