Hoffman Estates man turns himself in after Palatine hit-and-run

A 26-year-old Hoffman Estates man turned himself in to police Monday to face a charge stemming from a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning in Palatine that left a woman injured, authorities said Tuesday.

Anthony Sheets, of the 4600 block of Huntington Boulevard, faces a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident. He surrendered at the Palatine police department after midnight Monday and was released after posting the required 10 percent of his $1,500 bail.

Authorities say Sheets was driving his car south on Middleton Avenue just before 9 a.m. Sunday when he tried turning right onto westbound Palatine Road but entered the eastbound lane instead and struck another car. Sheets left the scene, but an investigation determined a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze registered in his name was parked in front of his Hoffman Estates home with front-end damage, police said.

The 67 year-old driver of the Acura struck in the crash was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights after complaints of pain.

Sheets is due in court Dec. 7.
