BMO Harris Bank, Blackhawks recognize youth hockey player, coach and volunteer of the month

Addison, Mount Prospect, Palatine residents honored for community service, accomplishments

CHICAGO, October 28, 2015 - BMO Harris Bank today announced, in partnership with the Chicago Blackhawks, the recognition of Basil Stamatopoulos, Nick Panos, and Stacy Margolis as the BMO Harris Bank Youth Hockey Player, Coach and Volunteer of the Month.

Steve Taylor, Chief Financial Officer, BMO Financial Group, presented the awards to Stamatopoulos, Panos and Margolis during the on-ice ceremony at the Oct. 26 Blackhawks game.

For the past eight seasons, BMO Harris Bank and the Chicago Blackhawks have teamed up to honor one youth hockey coach and youth hockey player each month for their outstanding achievements both on the ice and in their communities. This is the third year BMO Harris Bank and the Chicago Blackhawks are recognizing one volunteer of the month, awarded for their efforts in giving back to their community. All candidates are nominated by teammates, coaches, friends or family members through the Blackhawks' website and are judged by an amateur hockey committee.

Player of the month Basil Stamatopoulos is a sixth grader at Timothy Christian School from Addison, Illinois. Stamatopoulos plays goalie for the Northern Illinois Hockey League. Stamatopoulos is a straight-A student and also attends Greek school, where he has participated in plays and led dance troupe performances. He is an active member of his church and has helped to fundraise for the R33M Foundation to end pediatric brain cancer in honor his teammate, Ross K. MacNeill.

Coach of the month Nick Panos lives in Mount Prospect and works as the PREP (Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove, Palatine) High School Varsity and Hockey director. Panos has coached teams to state and league championships as well as the President's Cub. Panos first got involved in coaching as way to help kids learn and respect the game of hockey. He also has three sons who all play hockey on teams he has coached. "Having an impact on a young adult's life is a privilege and something I take very seriously," says Panos.

Palatine resident Stacy Margolis is a volunteer for the Rolling Meadows Renegades where she serves as team manager for her 12-year-old son's Pewee team. This is her fifth year in the position. Margolis enjoys helping the team get ready for games and is proud to pass on her love of hockey to her two sons.

BMO Harris Bank congratulates Basil Stamatopoulos, Nick Panos and Stacy Margolis on all their accomplishments both on and off the ice.
