Elgin Kiwanis put finishing touches on swing set

On Saturday, Aug. 22, members of the Kiwanis Club of Elgin will be putting finishing touches on a new swing set at Kiwanis Park, a 2.5-acre park site that adjoins the Elgin National Watch Co.'s observatory at 259 National St.

Club members will spread mulch to complete the installation.

Neighbors were asked what they would like to see at the park.

"The leading request was to have some swings put in there," said Rick Poulton, a club member who has helped spearhead improvements at Kiwanis Park, at National and Villa streets.

Greg Bohlin, Kiwanis Club member, has guided the construction.

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 95th year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission, to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time. In that time, the Elgin noon club donated over $1 million to organizations in Elgin and South Elgin.

Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend a weekly lunch meeting, held at noon each Tuesday at The Grumpy Goat Tavern, 875 Sports Way, Elgin, at the Highlands Golf Course. For more information, contact Karen Maki, (847) 695-7589.
