The Wheaton Municipal Band-Come Rain or Come Shine

Loyal fans of the Wheaton Municipal Band attend the Thursday night band concerts, come rain or come shine. Even if it is raining, don't miss the June 26 concert. Colonel Thomas H. Palmatier conducts the Wheaton Municipal Band, Thursday, June 25 at 8:00 p.m. in Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton.

Colonel Palmatier was appointed Leader and Commander of The U.S. Army Band in August 2011. He previously served as Commander and Conductor of The U.S. Army Field Band, and is the first officer to command both of the Army's top premier bands. Also, he served as Commandant of the U.S. Army School of Music, responsible for the training of Army Band Soldiers, Noncommissioned Officers, Warrant Officers, and Commissioned Officers for the Army's 106 bands worldwide.

Patriotic music is in Colonel Palmatier's blood. So, the program honors service men and women with the Armed Forces Medley, Chimes of Liberty, Battle Hymn of the Republic, and maybe even Stars and Stripes by Sousa.

Featured at the evenings' performance is Dr. Jonathan Whitaker on the trombone playing Thoughts of Love by Pryor. On the University of Alabama music faculty, Whitaker is an active performer as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. On Thursday, the mellow tones of the trombone will fill Memorial Park.

Each week, The Wheaton Municipal band members rise to the challenge of performing difficult compositions with just one night's rehearsal time. The challenge amplifies with the nuances of a new conductor. But the band steps up and never disappoints the thousands of loyal fans who attend the concerts.

Don't miss this powerful program. Bring a lawn chair, and if necessary, an umbrella. But plan to join the Wheaton Municipal Band on Thursday, June 26 at 8:00 p.m. in Memorial Park.
