One dead, one in critical condition after motorcycle crash

A 23-year-old Ingleside man died and a 20-year-old McHenry woman was critically injured in a motorcycle crash on Wilson Road in unincorporated Grant Township Wednesday night.

According to a news release by the Lake County sheriff's office, Nikolas D. Marcopoulos of Ingleside was driving a 2009 Buell motorcycle and Allison N. Morrison, of the 4700 block of Joyce Lane in McHenry, was sitting behind him when the crash happened.

They were driving north on Wilson Road and approaching Wooster Lake Road when they began to pass a northbound 2009 Toyota in a "no passing" zone, according to the news release. The Toyota, which was driven by Matthew V. Paret, 20, of the 2500 block of Spruce Drive in Round Lake, began to turn left toward Wooster Lake Road when the two vehicles struck.

Marcopoulos was pronounced dead at the scene. Morrison was flown to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville in critical condition.

Paret was driven to Centegra Hospital-McHenry with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
