Catholic deacons from suburbs ordained

The Archdiocese of Chicago will ordain 14 deacons, including men from Elk Grove Village, Lake Forest, Lake Villa, Niles and Schaumburg, on Sunday, May 17, at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. One man was ordained earlier this month.

The one from the North and Northwest suburbs are James T. Even at Prince of Peace Parish in Lake Villa, Pavel Jurkulak at St. John Brébeuf Parish in Niles, Howard P. Lanctot Jr. at St. Marcelline Parish in Schaumburg, Keith F. Strohm at Queen of the Rosary Parish in Elk Grove Village and Robert J. Thomas at St. Mary Parish in Lake Forest.

The deacons completed a four-year program that included a yearlong parish pastoral ministry internship. More than 98 percent of deacons are married and most are also employed in outside occupations.
