Elgin 360 Photo Club talks storm chasing Feb. 12

From the ominous formation of swirling storm clouds transforming day into night or the electric light show of a thousand lightning strikes erupting over a tranquil meadow, the images of Mother Nature in all her elemental glory can be as breathtaking as it is terrifying. The photographers that risk it all to capture these images are known as storm chasers.

Two of Elgin 360 Photography Club's resident storm chasers, Mike Frankowski and Lorraine Mahoney, will discuss their favorite storm -chasing photography topics, techniques and tips at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in downtown Elgin.

Attendees are also invited to join members for a pre-meeting dinner beforehand at Blue Box Cafe, 176 E. Chicago St. in downtown Elgin, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Elgin 360 Photography Club is a group of photography enthusiasts - ranging in experience from amateur to experienced professionals - who meet monthly to share knowledge, network and discuss photographic techniques and technologies while promoting a vibrant downtown Elgin through support of the arts and local small businesses.

The club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in downtown Elgin. Each meeting features speaker-lead discussions on a variety of photography topics and subject matter complete with supporting visuals, opportunities for practical application and photo sharing, and an informal question-and-answer period. Meetings are free and open to the public.
