Pianist to give recital at Judson
Judson University's Center for Worship in the Performing Arts will welcome Yukiko Fujimura to campus for a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, in the Thulin Performance Hall in the Thompson Center, 1151 N. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin.
Fujimura, who is from Kanagawa, Japan, earned her doctorate in piano performance from Ball State University, where she held a full teaching assistantship.
Over the years, she has garnered many awards at competitions including the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Performance in Wisconsin; the Yokosuka International Competition in Japan; and the Stanislaw Moniuszko International Competition of Slavic Music in Lithuania. In 2011, she appeared with the Belarusian National Symphony in Minsk, Belarus, and performed the challenging "Piano Concerto No. 1" by Sergei Prokofiev.
During her recital at Judson, Fujimura will perform works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, and Tchaikovsky.
