Artistry in Motion's Winter Spectacular Dec. 12-13

Artistry in Motion, the resident dance company of the Des Plaines Park District, will present their Winter Spectacular at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Prairie Lakes Theater.

This year's Spectacular is entitled "Holiday Memories" and will feature several dance numbers performed to well-known Disney hits.

The dancers have been preparing several pieces for this show including: "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" choreographed by Cecilia Ferguson-Bell; "Jingle Bells," choreographed by Jamie Salas; "Let It Go," choreographed by Karli Walker; and "Jingle Bell Rock," choreographed by Laura Witter. Short video clips will be shown in-between dances highlighting holiday memories of many of the AiM dancer's.

"After months of preparation, constant rehearsal and attention to detail, Artistry will bring to life the music behind each of its choreographies as we usher in a season of celebrations," said Nancy Suwalski, Cultural Arts Supervisor.

In the second half, The Footnotes Performing Troupe will entertain the crowd with a Broadway-style production called "Movie Magic." The troupe, under the direction of Kedrick Parham, will highlight songs from well know musicals including "Singing in the Rain" and "Somewhere over the Rainbow."

Children are invited to make arts and crafts with the AiM elves, have their faces painted, and have their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. New for 2014, special appearances by Buddy the Elf and Elsa from Disney's Frozen. Activities begin one hour before the performance begins and will be available during intermission.

Artistry in Motion performs at local venues around the state, and twice a year at the Prairie Lakes Theater. The company focuses on advanced technique and original pieces set for the company that include an eclectic mix of jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet, modern, and hip-hop styles.
