Arlington Hts., Schaumburg and Elk Grove flip the switch

The lights came on in Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg Friday evening, joining the Northwest suburbs that have already ushered in the 2014 holidays.

All three events were big community events despite the cold, and each unique in its own way with fireworks, lighted displays and more.

Two more towns will light up this weekend. At 5 p.m. today, Prospect Heights residents will gather in front of city hall, 8 N. Elmhurst Road to greet Santa, light the tree, hear carols and enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and toasted marshmallows.

And at 6 p.m. Sunday, the village of Rosemont will gather in Donald E. Stephens Park, Higgins Road and Scott Street for a community celebration.
