Hoffman fiesta promotes Hispanic culture and keeps it alive

The sound of traditional Latin American music filled the room Saturday at the Hoffman Estates Hispanic Heritage Day, Fiesta! 2014.

More than 100 people enjoyed the rhythms of guitarist Jose Verduzco of Palatine,

"I play music from all over Latin America," Verduzco said. "It makes you want to dance."

Daniella Derivera of Streamwood agreed,

"The guitarist is out of this world," she said. "We've been to Spain, and he matches all of them."

Along with Verduzco, activities included Latin dance representing several countries, food and light refreshments culminating with the ever-popular piƱata.

"It's exciting to help promote our culture and to keep it alive, and to bring the community together," said Sandra Lahoz of the Hoffman Estates Cultural Awareness Commission.
