Hope Fore Kids Classic raises $200,000 for Salvation Army
The Salvation Army held its 11th annual "Hope Fore Kids" Golf Classic at The Glen Club, 2901 W. Lake Ave., in Glenview, on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The tournament included a full day of leisure activities. Beginning with a golf clinic with professional Emil Esposito, followed by lunch and golf with a shotgun start at 11:45 a.m. The event culminated in an evening beverage reception and dinner that included a live auction and awards program.
This year's event was presented by Bandon Dunes and KemperSports. The event attracted 136 golfers from Chicagoland's business and philanthropic communities and also included special guests, former athletes Bob Love, Carlos May and Rich Nye.
The tournament raised more than $200,000 toward The Salvation Army's youth programs, which include child care, before-school and after-school programs, art, music and educational instruction, emergency shelter, character-building programs and other recreational activities.
Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.
