29th annual Scarecrow Fest stuffed with kid-friendly fun

Are you ready to see just how much family-friendly fun St. Charles can stuff into just one festive-full weekend this October?

The 29th annual St. Charles Scarecrow Fest - Presented by AAA, will again showcase more than 100 handmade scarecrows throughout Lincoln Park Oct. 10-12 for visitors to vote for and enjoy. It also offers families the opportunity to stuff and dress up their own scarecrows to bring home at the Fifth Third Bank Make Your Own Scarecrow activity.

This year, the creative geniuses at the festival's event management company, Ravenswood Event Services, will transform the east side of the festival's footprint in the St. Charles Municipal Complex into a robust, interactive activity zone offering a different themed set of super fun kids programming each day.

Friday, Oct. 10 will be "Farmin' Friday," featuring the Gardeneers Gardening Demos, Windy Acres Farm fruit and veggie stand, petting zoo, doughnut and ice cream eating competitions, and stiltwalker Jason Kollum.

Saturday, Oct, 11 will be "Spooky Saturday," complete with a Halloween costume sale, magic demonstrations, a waxed hands activity and more.

Sunday, Oct. 12 will be "Sunday Fun Day," which includes a petting zoo, henna tattoos, waxed hands activity, balloon animals and the "Wish You Were Here" postcard mailbox where kids can create and send their own unique Scarecrow Fest postcards to family and friends.

Sunday's live entertainment headliners on the municipal lot stage include the vocal stylings of Miss Illinois 2014 Marisa Buchheit and renowned children's musical artist Ralph Covert of Ralph's World. Scarecrow Fest mascots Chuck and Char also will be on hand to meet and greet guests of the fest.

Other headlining musical acts performing live on the Cadence Health Entertainment Stage in Lincoln Park include Wedding Banned on Friday, 97Nine and Super Crush on Saturday, and The Neverly Brothers on Sunday.

The popular Windy City Amusements carnival midway returns with unlimited ride armband specials for only $25 on Oct. 9 from 6-10 p.m. and Oct. 10 from noon to 4 p.m.

Visitors can make it a weekend in Greater St. Charles as several local hotels are offering special Scarecrow Fest room rates for the entire festival weekend.
