• Michael G. Russo, 56, of the 100 block of Virginia Street, Crystal Lake, was charged with theft early Monday after he walked out of a bar without paying a $12 tab and leaving behind a debit card that was declined, according to a police report says. Russo told police he didn't want to pay because he didn't have enough funds.

• Lereno Jefferson, 51, of the 9500 block of South Parnell Avenue, Chicago, was charged Sunday with three counts of aggravated battery and theft, court records show. Witnesses said the victim used a racial slur so Jefferson pushed and hit the victim, who suffered a broken nose. Jefferson also took another person's cellphone. His bail was set at $15,000 in Kane County bond court, and his next court date is Aug. 27.

• An man's iPhone5 was stolen at about 3:30 p.m. Aug. 10 after a man approached him on the 35W200 block of Lathrop Lane near West Dundee, asked to use his phone, punched him in the face and drove off with the phone, according to a sheriff's report.

• A woman's purse was stolen at about 3 p.m. Aug. 5 after she pulled over near Route 25 and Army Trail Road near St. Charles, according to a sheriff's report. The woman saw a man who she thought she knew, but it was a different person, who opened her passenger door, grabbed her purse, and threatened to kill her while holding a 6-inch knife, according to the report. The woman was not injured.
