Join a Day of Prayer and Fasting for victims of violence in Nigeria

There will be Day of Prayer and Fasting for the people of Nigeria on Friday, Aug. 22, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren in Elgin.

Many of the girls kidnapped from the school in Chibok on April 14 were from the Ekklesiyar Yan'uwa a Nigeria, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria.

The girls have not been returned, and the violence continues, including kidnappings, deaths, and the burning of homes and churches. The EYN has called on people of faith to pray and fast for them and for Nigeria, as they continue to suffer and work for peace in their communities.

Not all of the kidnapped girls are Christians. Some are Muslims.

This day of prayer and fasting is for all victims of violence in Nigeria, and people of all faiths are invited to join the Brethren as they open their church building from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The church is at 783 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. For details, call (847) 741-5124, or visit brethren.org/partners/nigeria/week-of-prayer-and-fasting.html.
