Things you can get rid of at Prairie View PTO recycling event

The Prairie View Grade School PTO will celebrate Earth Day with its annual recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12, at the school, 10N630 Nesler Road, Elgin.

Items accepted for recycling include but are not limited to: garden, patio, garage items, such as lawn mowers, shovels, rakes, grills, lawn furniture, metal fencing, snowblowers, golf clubs, bicycles, and mailboxes; appliances, such as stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, air conditioners, water heaters; household items, such as aluminum cans, steel cans, pot and pans, baking sheets, metal hangers, vacuum cleaners, blow dryers, silverware, cooking utensils, metal bed frames, curtain rods; auto parts, such as steel and aluminum car rims, batteries, body parts, starters, alternators, radiators, compressors, and engine parts; tools, such as power tools, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers and more; and miscellaneous items, such as Christmas lights, electric motors, pipes, faucets, stainless steel sinks, light fixtures, electrical wire, doorknobs, locks, keys, metal blinds, strollers, storm doors, screen doors, window frames, folding chairs and tables.

They also will accept electronics, such as flat screen monitors, printers, scanners, cameras, computers, video game consoles, radios, DVD/VHS players, alarm clocks, cellphones, MP3 players, satellite receivers, household appliances. Anything that plugs in or takes batteries, excluding TVs and tube monitors (flat screen only). Note: all hard drives will be destroyed.

Prairie View students participating can earn a charm for recycling and celebrating Earth Day!

By recycling old materials from home, the Prairie View PTO will raise money to help the school. Not only will you be helping the earth, but you will also be helping the school.
