Kaneland High School names new athletic director

The Kaneland Unit District 302 board of education announced the appointment of Peter Goff as athletic director at Kaneland High School beginning July 1, 2014.

Goff was selected from a pool of 103 applicants. He has served as dean of students at Sycamore High School for two years. Prior to his position as dean of students in Sycamore, Goff served as a history teacher and head boys basketball coach in Bloomington, Ill. Goff also has experience in the Sterling schools teaching English, communications, and history.

Goff brings a wealth of experiences to the position of athletic director at Kaneland High School. He completed his master's degree in education administration at National Louis University, his master's degree in curriculum and instruction at Northern Illinois University, and his bachelor of arts in communication studies was earned at Southern Illinois University.

Goff was chosen at the conclusion of a thorough, multi-step interview process involving different groups of stakeholders. A group of five talented semifinalists were selected following the first round of interviews. The five candidates participated in an interview process on Feb. 24, consisting of three interviews with different stakeholder groups. Candidates interviewed with a Kaneland High School department chair team, a district administrative team, and a head athletic coaches team. Three candidates emerged from the second round of interviews, to proceed to the final step of the process. In the final round of interviews, candidates completed interviews with a community group and a student group.

Goff emerged as the top candidate at the end of this competitive interview process. He was selected for a number of excellent reasons including his administrative experience, student focus, athletic background, and his vision for how the Kaneland High School athletic programs can enhance school culture, services, and opportunities for students. Goff will begin his contract at a salary of $85,000 plus benefits, and will assume his position as Kaneland High School athletic director on July 1.
