Citizens for Conservation's Summer Camp registration is open

Citizens for Conservation's Youth Education is once again offering a Leave No Child Inside-oriented preschool camp for summer 2014. "Beginning Naturalists" is for children ages 4 and 5 and is scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 9-13.

Using Citizens for Conservation's own "Junior Naturalist" activity books, a maximum of 10 children will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about nature through hiking the prairie and woodland at Citizens for Conservation-owned Flint Creek Savanna. Participants will enjoy storytelling under the shade of the black walnut trees, play games and make nature-related crafts. Camp is held rain or shine.

Children are asked to dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Please no sandals. Apply bug spray at home. Children should bring their own beverage and a snack to camp.

Camp fee is $100 for members and $150 for nonmembers. Registration forms are found at www.citizensforconservation.org/youth-education. For information, email youth-education@citizensforconservation.orgor call (8470 382-7283. Registration is now open and is first-come first-served.

Campers will enjoy a sample of the Chicago Wilderness Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights which includes discovering natural lands - prairies, savannas, and wetlands; following a trail; catching and releasing fish, frogs, or insects; and exploring nature. They will plant a flower and play in the mud or a stream.

Citizens for Conservation (CFC) is a member of the local Leave No Child Inside initiative of the Greater Barrington and Lake Zurich Area whose mission is "children and nature growing healthy together". Throughout the year, CFC provides educational programs and volunteer opportunities for children ages 4-14.
