District 59 PE teachers lead sessions at state conference

District 59’s elementary PE team hit a home run at the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance convention.

At this annual professional development conference, attended by thousands of PE teachers statewide, Dist. 59’s elementary PE team collaborated to bring their professional peers sessions containing almost two hours of engaging, creative and challenging activities.

The team presented over 30 games that incorporated a variety of sport skills, literacy, claim/evidence, communication and problem-solving skills with more than enough movement to keep the attendees active and thinking. The busyness and excitement of the day left attendees reinvigorated to return to their classes full of new ideas and the District 59 elementary PE team proud of their hard-earned success and leadership.

Representing District 59 were: Bill Lancaster, Brentwood School; Anthony Gaudio, Clearmont School; Jenny Diehl, Devonshire School; Tim Gera, Robert Frost School; John David, Forest View School; Matt Caputo, John Jay School; Colleen Davis, Juliette Low School; Will Hogan, Ridge Family Center for Learning; Julie Gordon, Rupley School; Bo Phillips and Joe Umana, Salt Creek School.
