Family Video donates thousands of Turkeys and Hams to Local Families in Need

Movie and Game Rental Chain continues annual tradition in communities across the U.S.

Glenview, IL -November 20, 2013 --- Family Video, the nation's largest family-owned movie and game rental chain, aims to make the holidays a little brighter for families in need this holiday season. Continuing an annual tradition, the chain's 775 stores will be donating thousands of turkeys and hams between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to those who most need help in their communities.

The tradition began over 40 years ago, when Clarence Hoogland, founder of Family Video's original parent company, Midstates Appliance and Supply, gave each warehouse employee a plump turkey for their family's holiday meal. When Clarance's son Charles 'Charlie' Hoogland took over the business, he expanded the practice to donate turkeys to Family Video's customers as well since they are "part of the family!'

Charlie's son Keith Hoogland, President of Family Video, remarked, "Each Family Video store is a part of that community's social fiber. Part of that comes from our store's location and events held there, but it's realy all about our people. When customers come to a Family Video, they almost always know the person behind the counter or putting movies on the shelves, because they come from that community. And our store personnel likely know someone in the area who is in need, and so this is a good way for us to give back and support the whole community, not just the people that come into our stores."

Local store and district managers work in conjunction with schools, churches, homeless shelters, and other community organizations to identify families or groups who are in need of a holiday meal. The Family Video team will then personally deliver the turkey or ham to the people who need it most. Through this program, the company and its employees are able to express their gratitude and support towards the community in a meaningful way.

Hoogland continued, "This year, our employees are projected to donate over 3000.000 turkeys and hams to local families who need assistance. We are proud to continually be able to make a difference for people."
