Bring canned goods to Elgin Bible Church

Submitted by Elgin Bible Church

Elgin Bible Church, 1580 E. Chicago St., will host a “Coffee for Cans” event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. Anyone who drives in to drop off a can of food will be given a free cup of Starbucks coffee.

The church also is contacting Jewel, Sam’s Club and nearby stores in the community to see if they would be willing to donate to the cause as well. The goal is to fill a semitrailer with the top 15 items on Hanover Townships list of items needed.

The top 15 items needed are: macaroni and cheese, canned tuna/chicken, soup, spaghetti noodles/sauce, cereal, pancake mix/syrup, hamburger helper/tuna helper, peanut butter/jelly, instant potatoes, toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, personal care items (i.e. shampoo, conditioner, soap, female products), laundry detergent, and canned corn.

The church has invited local and state politicians to come and greet people at the event.

To make it more fun, they are having a big country line dance to see how many people they can get in the parking lot at one time (everybody bringing a food item as admission price, of course).

This is part of the annual Elgin Bible Church Days, which is devoted to helping out the community. For information, contact the Rev. Timothy A. Beam at ebc@elgnbiblechurch.org or call (847) 888-1978.
