This is how Dist. 59 spends our money?

Our property values have decreased dramatically, yet our property taxes are increasing and out of control. Elementary School District 59 receives the largest percentage of our property taxes. They are now bragging about having a healthy surplus and are purchasing the former Wellington restaurant at 2121 S. Arlington Heights Road for parking and meeting space.

This will initially cost us $1.8 million and untold millions in renovations. We thought our property taxes were to benefit our children, not buy the district a parking lot and banquet hall.

As many of the families in our district our struggling financially, tax relief would help these families stay in their homes. Perhaps the district should move into the old Forest View High School. There seems to be plenty of parking and meeting space available, which our property taxes already pay to maintain.

Again, just the thought of buying the Wellington property shows how out of touch and ignorant the District 59 school board is.
