District 59 appoints Salt Creek principal

Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 school board this week appointed Laura Sandoval as principal of Salt Creek Elementary School in Elk Grove Village.

Sandoval will replace Maureen McAbee, who accepted the central office administrative position of executive director of English Language Learning. Sandoval was chosen from among 70 applicants consisting of current district employees and external candidates. Four finalists were interviewed by administrators and teachers, and two finalists were interviewed by a committee of parents, staff and community and school board members.

Sandoval currently serves as building assistant at Salt Creek School. She joined District 59 in 1994 as a bilingual teacher at Admiral Byrd School.
