When Leah Ferguson came to Fremd High School as a freshman, she had aspirations of running track. She quickly proved herself as a talented and promising sprinter by posting the fastest time for the 55m dash during indoor season. Very quickly she was promoted to the varsity track team where she competed as a sprinter, long and triple jumper. She continued to blossom her entire career at Fremd, and she continued to gather ribbons and medal at her various competitions. She has received a varsity letter every year while attending Fremd.
During her junior year, she was part of the 4x200m team that placed 2nd at the IHSA Sectional Championship Meet and headed to the IHSA finals at Eastern (2012). During her senior year, she qualified and competed at the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor State Meet at Illinois Wesleyan University for the 60m dash. This year at the Buffalo Grove meet, Leah broke a thirteen year Fremd Womens' Track & Field record when she ran the 100m dash in 12 seconds. At this year's MSL conference she came in second for the 100m dash and third for the 200m dash, and at this year's IHSA Sectional meet in Palatine she placed 4th in the 100m dash (missing the state qualifying mark by .03 sec), and 5th in the 200m dash.
Leah received a four year athletic scholarship from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She will continue to run track for the Mountain Hawks, and she plans to major in architecture and minor in sustainable engineering.
