Submitted by Kiwanis Club of Elgin

On Tuesday, June 25, members will view “The Collector of Bedford Street” at the weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Elgin. The 2002 documentary features Larry Selman, a 60-year-old man with mental disabilities who raised thousands of dollars for charities including Kiwanis. This program was originally scheduled for May.

On Tuesday, July 2, Laura Mesjak and Jennifer Bueche of Gail Borden Public Library will discuss the 2013 Summer Reading Program “Read on the Wild Side” and the 2013 Community Reading Challenge.

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 93rd year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time. In that time, the Elgin Noon Club has donated more than $1 million to organizations in Elgin and South Elgin.

Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend a weekly lunch meeting at noon Tuesdays at The Hickory Stick Bar & Grille Restaurant, 875 Sports Way, at the Highlands golf course in Elgin. For information, call Karen Maki, (847) 429-5976.
