Libertyville, IL—FirstLight HomeCare of Deerfield and Lake Forest is pleased to announce the start of its new Support Group for Family Caregivers.

The group will meet once a month starting Tuesday, July 9, from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m., at the FirstLight office in Libertyville, and will provide ongoing support and programs for people caring for spouses, parents, children, friends, or other relatives at home.

The group is open to all unpaid caregivers at no charge.

FirstLight HomeCare provides non-medical care that helps seniors and chronically ill persons stay in their home and live with independence and dignity. These services, in turn, provide family caregivers with assistance with their responsibilities.

While statistics on the number of unpaid caregivers in the U.S. vary widely, it is estimated that between 44 million and 65 million Americans are providing between 15 hours and 75 hours a week of unpaid care for a loved one, according to the Family Caregiver Alliance.

Caregiving feels natural because it involves performing loving, caring asisstance, but it can be stressful and frequently results in health, financial, and/or relationship problems for the family caregiver.

“We plan to provide family caregivers with the support and tools they need to reduce stress, and maintain their physical and emotional well-being while still lovingly caring for their family member or friend at home,” explained Stephanie Johnson, owner/operator of FirstLight HomeCare of Deerfield and Lake Forest.

The FirstLight HomeCare of Deerfield and Lake Forest office is located at 1580 S Milwaukee, Suite 201, in Libertyville. For additional information, contact Barbara Hunter-Kowalski, Care Coordinator, at 618-698-5118 or at bkowalski@firstlighthomecare.com.
