Elgin Woman’s Club awards two $1,000 scholarships

Submitted by Elgin Woman’s Club

The Elgin Woman’s Club has awarded two $1,000 scholarships to graduating students from Larkin High School who are pursuing careers in the field of health occupations.

Phyllis Rudolph, scholarship chairwoman, and committee member Diane Montgomery, were pleased with the number of qualified senior applicants from Elgin’s District U-46 schools.

“We were pleased to be able to once again award scholarships to two very well qualified students in order to help as they begin their college education.”

This year’s scholarship recipients are Larkin High School graduating seniors Jessica Ojeda and Lisa Lieu. Ojeda will attend the University of Illinois at Chicago. She plans to major in nursing. Lieu will attend Loyola University, Chicago, and also plans to major in nursing.

Rudolph presented the winners their scholarships at the Larkin High School award ceremony.

Scholarship funds are raised during the year by club members through a variety of fundraising efforts, including an annual luncheon featuring programs by noted entertainers.

The Elgin Woman’s Club invites women interested in community service, philanthropy and education to call the club hotline, (847) 622-3614, for details about membership. The club meets monthly from September to May for luncheon meetings and programs.
