Wheeling High School classes canceled by power outage
Classes were canceled Wednesday at Wheeling High School because of a power outage, but school will resume on Thursday, officials said.
It was the second time this year a loss of electricity forced the school to send students home for the day. Power went out at about 8 a.m. and classes were dismissed about 9:20 a.m., said Venetia Miles, spokeswoman for High School District 214. Buses returned to take students home.
Miles said she doesn’t know if the same issue that caused a power outage in February was behind Wednesday’s problem.
Power had been restored at the school as of about 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday night’s Jazz concert was scheduled to go on as planned, but the away baseball game had been canceled due to weather.
