The two men accused of leading police on a high-speed case from Elgin to Wisconsin last weekend have been extradited to face charges in Illinois.
During a Friday morning bond hearing, bail was set at $100,000 for Kevin Gorman, 30, of the 1200 block of Lincoln Court in Streamwood. He was also formally charged with burglary, resisting or obstructing a police officer and criminal damage to government supported property — all felonies.
Meanwhile, bail was set at $35,000 for Jacob A. Braden, 22, of the 800 block of Honey Locust Court in Bartlett. He was charged with felony burglary. Police say Braden was the driver. Both men were in Kane County jail as of Friday afternoon.
The pair led officers on a nearly two-hour chase last Saturday, police said, following a burglary at Sam's Club at 1000 S. Randall Road in Elgin. Police saw the two men getting into a pickup truck in an apparent attempt to flee, and chased them, police said. Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said the men were stealing vehicle batteries.
When two police officers approached the pair in the parking lot, the suspects drove off in a pickup truck, hitting one of the officers and injuring his hips, then crashing into a police SUV. That action pinned the other officer into the passenger side of the truck, injuring his legs, according to a police report.
Elgin police ended the pursuit on I-94 in Lake County, and Wisconsin State Patrol picked it up at 4 a.m. at the state line northbound on I-94.
The Racine County Sheriff's Department ended the chase by putting spike strips on the road that shredded Braden's truck's tires, police said.
Earlier this week, the district attorney in Racine County declined the criminal charges the pair had against them in Wisconsin so they could return to Illinois.
Gorman is due in court on Thursday, while Braden won't appear until May 22. If found guilty of the most serious charge, they could spend between three to seven years in prison.
