BACOA offers senior health insurance consultation

The Barrington Area Council on Aging (BACOA) can provide seniors with information on health insurance questions through the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP).

SHIP counselors can answer questions about Medicare, Medicare Supplement insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, prescription drug coverage, Medicare appeals, new prevention and wellness benefits, and a variety of other insurance-related topics.

Those who need more assistance making decisions about coverage or who have questions about the changes, can call BACOA at (847) 381-5030. SHIP-trained staff and volunteers can help research options and decide on an appropriate plan. SHIP is a free counseling service, and training is provided by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Insurance.

Seniors and family caregivers can make an appointment with a SHIP counselor by calling BACOA at (847) 381-5030.

Information about the Senior Health Insurance Program is paid with financial assistance in part through a grant from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the federal Medicare Agency.
