Food Drive Produces 939 lbs of Food for the Poor

The employees of Tek Systems in Downers Grove recently ran a company food drive, collecting 939 pounds of non-perishable foods for local senior citizens in need. Members of the Tek Systems team braved the pouring rain to deliver the three carloads of food to the Humanitarian Service Project of DuPage County. The employees at Tek Systems were motivated to run the drive responding to HSP's call to the community about the dire need of the hungry seniors they serve.

There are 121 local senior citizens who will receive this donated food through HSP's Senior Citizen Project. Stretched thin under the strains of poverty, these seniors are unable to afford the groceries necessary to maintain their own health. The purpose of the Senior Citizen Project is to fulfill this need, by providing nutritious foods and other necessities to these seniors. HSP does so by providing monthly deliveries of 100 lbs of groceries to each of the 121 seniors in the program which include: selections of 7 fresh fruits and 8 vegetables, 7 frozen meats, 6 bags of non-perishable foods, 2 bags of paper products and personal care items.
