The World Bazaar Craft Fair-Flea Market will be held in the Rasmussen Room on the second floor. Local crafters and artists will have tables displaying their unique handmade items, including jewelry, hand-blown glass, puppets, floral pieces, embellished handbags and more. Additionally, international, fair trade items will be on sale from Gifts of the World, which helps support artisans in developing countries. All ages are welcome, but children age 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Prices are not negotiable and only cash and checks will be accepted. The World Baazar will remain open until 4 p.m.; one hour later than the other activities.
Flea market tables will also be included in the World Bazaar. All are welcome to peruse these bargain-priced treasures, including spring décor, books, toys, small household appliances, electronic games and DVDs. Second-hand clothes, including jackets and" like-new" girls dresses, will also be among the items for sale. There will even be brand new items, including small kitchen appliances and electronics. A portion of the World Bazaar proceeds will be donated to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.
In the Adult Classroom, also on the second floor, children are invited to attend a Fun Fair with games, prizes, and three airbrush facepainters. Children can watch cartoons while playing games or waiting to have their faces artistically designed. Children age 8 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
During the National Library Week Kick-off Celebration, Teen Place will be open to all ages. Normally designated only for teens, this unique section of the library is full of state-of-the-art technology, collaborative work stations, and a digital media production studio. Everyone is welcome to drop in anytime from noon to 3 p.m.
On the first floor, all ages may participate in the Book Walk (like a Cake Walk) in the Audiovisual Theatre. Participants will walk around the colored squares to the tunes of international music. Those who win may choose a book.
In the lobby, international music will fill the air, provided by Pianist Wayne Richards. Library staff will be available at information tables where people may pick up handouts, ask questions and receive a small gift just for visiting. The library's popular prize wheel will also be in the lobby for anyone who wants to spin and receive a prize.
